Our Photo Album: Our People Make RLC Special

We are always looking for photos of church activities. If you do not want your photo or your child’s photo published on our website, just complete the RLC Privacy Form and turn it in to the church. It is located on the Contact Us page. You or your child may appear in the background of a group activity without our knowing it, but if you let us know, we will delete the photo.

Also, we do not ever identify, by name, any children or youth under the age of 18 years old without parental or guardian permission. If you have any questions, please contact our Website Manager, Lori Philo-Cook.

Quilt Fundraiser for Youth Room: Lori B is the Winner!, June 2026

Our New Youth Room: A Memorial to Penny Budzien!

Penny Budzien, a long-time member of RLC, passed away, and we are honoring her for her many contributions, but especially her commitment to our youth.

A New Youth Room:
A group of RLC folks have recently done a lot of cleaning and purging of unneeded things at our church, which opened up a space for Lori B to move her office. This in turn gave us the opportunity to convert Lori’s old office to a new space inside the church that can be used for our youth!

With funds we receive in Penny’s name, we are completely renovating this space to make a comfortable, inviting room for the teens to have Sunday School and social events. When not in use by our teens, the room will be available for small group meetings and for weekday and evening Bible study groups like the ones that Penny often led.

Making a Donation: If you would like to make a memorial donation to honor Penny, please consider donating to Penny’s memorial, which has been approved by the family. Donations made to the RLC PENNY BUDZIEN MEMORIAL will fund this renovation.

Christmas Eve Quilt Auction

The Quilt Ladies outdid themselves this Christmas with not one, but two beautiful quilts for auction. The pickup truck Christmas quilt was especially popular; Lori B was the proud winner and excited to have it for her own bed. Lori PC won the smaller quilt and loves the classic design and how perfect it would be for the back of her sofa. The proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets will support our quilt ministry in 2026, which is how they get the material and supplies to make our prayer quilts that spread love and hope through the community.

Thank you to everyone who made the RLC 60th Anniversary Community-wide Fall Festival a success. It took a whole lot of us to put this event on.

We would like to give special recognition to the group of people who planned and organized everything related to the event. And, it was reported at the Annual Meeting, that with cash donations, in-kind donations and sponsorships, we were able to cover all the costs—an amazing feat. The Spring Tea was a very successful event. Penny Budzien and Needa Green did all the planning and preparations and many members and their families enjoyed it immensely. There were many wonderful treats and fun conversations. Author Una Belle Townsend read her famous true story, Grady’s in the Silo,” which happened in Yukon 75 years ago. The children and adults enjoyed the story.

RLC Living Nativity, Dec 18, 2022

RLC hosted a Living Nativity with live animals on Sun, Dec 18. The Living Nativity was at 6pm and 7:30pm.

This event also included a petting zoo, two live camels, sheep, goats, and a donkey. There was also refreshments, games and photo opportunities in between. A big thanks to all the RLC folks who participated and those who helped behind the scene.

Our digital sign was unveiled on Sept 11 and is now promoting RLC programs and activities.

Some Benefits of Our New Sign
Eye catching messages that will attract the attention of people walking and driving by.
-A more effective and efficient way to promote RLC worship services, special programs, upcoming activities, special announcements and more.
-The ability to promote multiple messages on the same sign.
-The ability to update messages remotely which is especially helpful in inclement weather, when there are last minute changes, etc.
-Enhance out ability to communicate with younger members of the community who pay more attention to colorful, moving digital messaging.

A Caroling We Did Go, Dec 2022

On Dec 11, a group gathered together to go Christmas caroling. They helped make Christmas cards and then went caroling at nursing homes and to some of our shut-in members.

The Old RLC Sign Comes Down, Sept 2022

At the July RLC Council Meeting, the Council voted to move forward on a new digital sign for the church. The old sign served us well for many years, but it had gotten tired looking and it was hard to change the messages.

IA digital sign had been under discussion for over a year, and research has been conducted a couple of times, but following a well thought out PowerPoint presentation covering the latest option, the Council voted unanimously to move forward. Council President Stephen Tharp and Council Member Katherine Dawson have been instrumental in researching options for the project.

We had a good turnout for the RLC Carnival on Sept 26th. It was great fun for the entire family, with games and prizes.
The cost included all of the activities except for the pie in the face and refreshments. All proceeds from this event went to our Youth Programs.

Two new juniper trees were planted in the front of the church to replace one that died and one that had not fared well after the ice storm. Garden beds are all cleaned out and ready for spring planting when weather allows. Thank you Katherine for spearheading this project.

Oklahoma City Lutheran Churches Provide New Bedding for Oaks Indian Mission Students

The Oklahoma City Women of the ELCA provided new quilts, and bedding for 40 students and 2 cabin leaders for the Oaks Indian Mission for the beginning of their school year in mid-August.

In a combined effort of several churches, 40 oversized twin quilts, 60 twin sheet sets, 2 queen quilts, 2 queen sheet sets, and 44 pillows were collected. Members of Ascension Lutheran delivered the bedding on August 16.

What a Great Family Time on December 4th

Participants were invited to make an ornament for the RLC tree and one to take home.

On Sunday, December 4, right after the late worship service, a group of fun-loving families joined in some family fun.

After a light lunch, ornaments were created and decorated by hand—one to hang on the Christmas tree in the sanctuary and one to take home. That fun activity was followed by tree decorating in the sanctuary and a Christmas movie.

Impromptu Fun & Fellowship

If you think we need more fellowship time with our fellow RLC members, have no fear! It’s happening. Andrew and Nathan Borseth and Paul Francel and Lisa Gigstad were feeling blue, so they went together to an OKC Blues game!!
Here is the photo evidence. Nathan and Lisa were later, so they didn’t get to be in the photo before the game (shown to the right).

Celebrating the Cox Family Return!

The Cox family returned home after being stationed in Germany for several years and are now stationed at Tinker AFB. On Nov 13, we hosted a special coffee hour in their honor. A warm welcome to Peter, Jennie and their daughters, Lena and Lydia.

2016 Pumpkin Sale Went Well

The Annual Pumpkin Patch is something we all look forward to. The profits from selling the pumpkins goes to our youth group for their next trip to the National Youth Gathering. Many members came to help unload pumpkins on Oct 15. A special thanks to Lori B, who does so much work to make this event a success.

Our youth participated in all parts of our combined Sunday service—from the readings and songs, to special music, communion and even the sermon.

It was an inspiration to all who attended.
